Summary

Great story of a remarkable woman。 I do wish I'd read the Tattooist of Auschwitz first however, as I believe Cilka was first introduced in that book。 Definitely will。be adding that one to my Reading list。 Great story of a remarkable woman。 I do wish I'd read the Tattooist of Auschwitz first however, as I believe Cilka was first introduced in that book。 Definitely will。be adding that one to my Reading list。 。。。more

Emotionless and empty。Cilkas Journey By Heather MorrisAfter reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz I moaned that the book lacked emotion and Morris didn't have the skill to convey this in her book but in her defense it was written as a screenplay so this may of been the reason, however after Reading this I can now see that it is in fact Morris who lacks the skill to bring a truly remarkable story to life。The book reads like a news story with no voice or emotion leaping from the page from any of the Emotionless and empty。Cilkas Journey By Heather MorrisAfter reading The Tattooist of Auschwitz I moaned that the book lacked emotion and Morris didn't have the skill to convey this in her book but in her defense it was written as a screenplay so this may of been the reason, however after Reading this I can now see that it is in fact Morris who lacks the skill to bring a truly remarkable story to life。The book reads like a news story with no voice or emotion leaping from the page from any of the characters the writing is poor and we have no real story to hold onto and embrace it is just one long list of factual and some IN factual statements written on a page for us I never once heard or felt the struggles of Cilka or her fellow prisoners'。 I was hoping that this being the second book that what was missing from before would be here but at no stage did I feel the deplorable struggle the characters went through and witness the unspeakable events at the hands of others just felt empty and soulless。I felt like we were being told rather than shown the events that befell this sad life it was as if Morris is just reporting on the events for the TV news。Yes its a story that needs to be told and as many voices need to tell so these events never happen again Its just a shame this Author can't delivery that, but on that note Kudos to her for getting these stories out there so people like myself can learn and be moved to sort out better more researched and powerful published works。If not for the content amongst it's pages this would have been a one star read as it's awfully written so with that being said it is Not worth your time or hard earned cash。It's a great story that needs to be told but just told very poorly in this book。 。。。more

Absolutely brilliant。 I finished it in 2 days(would have been sooner if I didn't have to sleep etc。。) Such a defined story about what happened in those awful places all those years ago。 But a very heartwarming story of how love could be found even in the most darkest of times。 Amazing。 Totally worth the read🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely brilliant。 I finished it in 2 days(would have been sooner if I didn't have to sleep etc。。) Such a defined story about what happened in those awful places all those years ago。 But a very heartwarming story of how love could be found even in the most darkest of times。 Amazing。 Totally worth the read🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 。。。more

Such a heartbreaking and insightful read。 I can't imagine what life must have been like for Cilka and all of her friends at that time and after。 Beautifully written by Heather Morris, telling the story of those who cannot tell them themselves。 Such a heartbreaking and insightful read。 I can't imagine what life must have been like for Cilka and all of her friends at that time and after。 Beautifully written by Heather Morris, telling the story of those who cannot tell them themselves。 。。。more

I read this book in a single day--it was a real page-turner。 The characters were well-developed。 The pace of the book was good--there weren't points of the book that dragged or went too fast。 I didn't know much about post-WW2 history in the Soviet Union, so it was an enlightening read。 Would recommend。 I read this book in a single day--it was a real page-turner。 The characters were well-developed。 The pace of the book was good--there weren't points of the book that dragged or went too fast。 I didn't know much about post-WW2 history in the Soviet Union, so it was an enlightening read。 Would recommend。 。。。more

I can't put into words the emotions I felt reading this book。 I was angry, scared, sad。 Lale was correct when he stated she was a brave woman。 Cilka endures Auschwitz- Birkenau and a Russian Gulag。 She found friendship, meaning, work, and love。 She is a testament to the human spirit。 I can't put into words the emotions I felt reading this book。 I was angry, scared, sad。 Lale was correct when he stated she was a brave woman。 Cilka endures Auschwitz- Birkenau and a Russian Gulag。 She found friendship, meaning, work, and love。 She is a testament to the human spirit。 。。。more

i don’t think it would be appropriate for me to rate this book。 what am i giving a rating to? the story? am i going to give stars for someone’s life and how extremely difficult it was? it would be impossible for me to differentiate the literary value of this book from its real life story。 it was hard to live through the moments in the book, i will never know what Cilka truly felt like and i would not wish it to anyone。 it was a good insight into the Soviet gulag system。

This book focuses mostly on Cilka's life beyond Auschwitz in Siberia。 Cold and chilling, but her stubbornness is the thing that gets her through。 Its remarkable。 This book focuses mostly on Cilka's life beyond Auschwitz in Siberia。 Cold and chilling, but her stubbornness is the thing that gets her through。 Its remarkable。 。。。more

I had mixed feelings about this book, in much the same way I did about the Tattooist from Auschwitz。 Definitely an engaging, accessible read that allows the reader to think about the day to day life in the gulags。 Unfortunately, I found the character to be a little too brave, too heroic and maybe a little one dimensional, which was a little frustrating。 Nevertheless, it was a valuable, enjoyable book & it’s definitely worth a go for fans of historical fiction。⭐️⭐️⭐️。5

I thought this book was amazing。 It was terrifying to read cilkas story。 I can’t believe that she went through so much hardship。 The whole time the story was progressing I was amazed at the strength and determination of her。 This was a very inspiring book and if you like historical novels this is a book for you。

Really enjoyed this book。 I had read The tattooist of Auswitz, so this seemed to complete the picture。

Tammy

As much as I enjoyed reading the Tattoist of Auschwitz, I was enthralled to read about Cilka and her own journey。 For the age she was and what she went through is inspiring。 The determination she exhibited is admirable for such a young woman。To read that she was actually able to enjoy life for 5 decades later brought happiness to her life before。Well worth reading。

Despite the subject matter, this was a well-written and informative book that will engross the reader right from the beginning。 The narrator for this audiobook was awesome, pronouncing the Russian names easily。 The story picks up after Cilka Klein has spent 3+ years in Auschwitz, freed, but then sent to a Soviet gulag in Siberia known as Vorkuta inside the Arctic Circle, on the charge of collaborating with the Nazis。 There, Cilka is again subjected to brutal rapes and maltreatment。 Each day is a Despite the subject matter, this was a well-written and informative book that will engross the reader right from the beginning。 The narrator for this audiobook was awesome, pronouncing the Russian names easily。 The story picks up after Cilka Klein has spent 3+ years in Auschwitz, freed, but then sent to a Soviet gulag in Siberia known as Vorkuta inside the Arctic Circle, on the charge of collaborating with the Nazis。 There, Cilka is again subjected to brutal rapes and maltreatment。 Each day is a battle for survival。 She survives due to her wits and strength, and the kindness of a female doctor, who selects her to work in the hospital and train as a nurse。 She spends 10 years there before being released。The book is based on the story of the Slovakian Jew, Lale Sokolov (from The Tattooist of Auschwitz in which Cilka also appears) as told to the author。 Mr。 Sokolov referred to Cilka, a friend of his wife's in Auschwitz-Birkenau camp, as "the bravest person he ever met - not the bravest girl, the bravest person" for having endured what she did to survive。 This spurred the author on to research and write this book。 There appears to be some controversy from Cilka's stepson as to the authenticity of these facts。 He claims most of the book is fiction。 Regardless, this is a story in which the reader will appreciate the themes of hope, bravery, and a determination to survive。The author offers a lot of extra information for her readers。 To start off there is a Forward, then at the end, there is a Note from the Author, Additional Information, Afterward, Closing, and an Interview with the Author。 Lots of extras! 。。。more

I just finished it and oh my。。。。 it's just as painful as the tattooist of Auschwitz。What a beautiful and powerful story and the fact that there are actually real events in it?? It's a rollercoaster of emotions but despite that I think that this book and the tattooist should reach an even larger audience cuz it's totally worth it。 I just finished it and oh my。。。。 it's just as painful as the tattooist of Auschwitz。What a beautiful and powerful story and the fact that there are actually real events in it?? Rekommenderar!! Cilka kommer alltid finnas i mitt hjärta❤️

The Tattoo Artist Of Auschwitz was bleak, but there was hope throughout it。 This book was depressing until the very end。 The writing is good, but the book left me rather despondent。

Well written。 It must be challenging to write a fictional novel based on a real person and events in history。 Morris has done a good job bringing Cilka and her story to life。
